Theoretical analysis and predictions of burning in microgravity using a burning emulator

Burning experiments are analyzed for 29 steady burning flames using a gas burner (BRE) to emulate condensed-phase of 25 mm diameter flat surface. Mixtures ethylene and nitrogen allow 23.6 47.2 kJ/g heats combustion (LHV). Ambient conditions range from 21 40% oxygen pressures 0.56 1 bar. The results compared predictions analytic models developed determine the flame radiation fraction, convective radiative heat fluxes, shape, gasification burning. Steady is theoretically decided by ensuring temperature above critical value 1100 K. Good agreement achieved between experiment predicted results. Further computations made effect ambient pressure on kJ/g, diameters up 100 mm, vaporization temperatures 80 350 ºC. It found that conditions, about 5 would result over 6 g/m2s. Low appears yield more stable flames. have implications how fire safety materials in microgravity should be determined.
